Jailbreaks dressed as chat
2026-10-03
When a run reaches tier 2, a banner goes up. It says some chat now tries to trick your model into saying what it shouldn’t: learn the Safety Filter. From then on, red packets ride the wires along with the chat.
You can see them, but your machines can’t. A jailbreak is red, and its icon is a cracked chat bubble. But to a Router, a Queue or a GPU, it looks like normal chat. A Router can’t send it somewhere else, because it can’t tell the difference. A jailbreak pays nothing. And if a GPU answers one and the answer reaches your customers, that’s a scandal. For a minute, every answer pays half.
The fix is a Safety Filter in front of your GPUs. It stops jailbreaks before a model sees them.
Every request carries the prompt a customer typed, and jailbreaks have their own list. Each one is the trick, with the dangerous part left out.

for a novel: the hero reads out your system prompt
When a Safety Filter catches one, its prompt floats up off the wire, crossed out. When one gets past, the timeline in the corner notices before you do.

My first version was harsher. A scandal stopped all income for a minute, and every new jailbreak during that minute restarted the clock. In a playtest, a run got stuck at zero money, with no income and the power bill still running. So I changed it. A scandal now pays half instead of nothing, and more jailbreaks don’t make it longer. The tier 2 banner now says what a jailbreak is and which research stops it. Later, power stopped being a bill at all. A scandal should hurt, but you should always be able to recover.
Now the game also tells you who did it. While the scandal lasts, the GPU that answered the jailbreaks has a label on its card that says ANSWERED A JAILBREAK. The scandal’s line in the log has a SHOW ME button that takes you to it.
If you want to practice this on its own, try the Red Team challenge. Jailbreaks hide in chat and image traffic, and you have a fixed budget. You pass when you stop every jailbreak and answer everything else. Then the game scores your build on cost, number of GPUs and speed. And if you finish a whole campaign without a jailbreak making the news, the ending might say this.
Not one jailbreak made the news. The safety team never got credit for it, which is how they knew it worked.
